New monthly reports on Statewide MMJ Sales

The stats are in for August, September, and October 2024.

The Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration (ADFA) has released reports on medical marijuana sales for the months of August, September, and October. Overall, industry income for 2024 has been lower than previous years- but the amount sold has actually increased. What accounts for the discrepancy? According to Scott Hardin, spokesperson for the ADFA, “While the overall spend is down this year, there is a significant year to year increase in total pounds purchased, reflecting lower prices.”

Sales totaled $69.2 million for the months of August ($23.9 million), September ($21.9 million), and October ($23.4 million). The state’s 37 dispensaries sold 6,714 pounds in August, 6,196 pounds in September, and 6,606 pounds in October. Suite 443 of Hot Springs led the leaderboard in August with 772.56 pounds sold, followed by Natural Relief Dispensary of Sherwood, which sold 551.25 pounds. The two dispensaries held first and second in weight sold for the months of September and October as well.

State taxes on medical marijuana have so far generated $25.8 million in 2024. Patients pay a 6.5% state sales tax and a 4% privilege tax on every dispensary purchase. However, when a cultivator sells its product to a dispensary in a B2B transaction, only the 4% privilege tax is applied.

From January 1, 2024 through October 31st, 2024, patients spent $227.8 million on medical marijuana. Sales from the same time frame in 2023 amounted to $234 million. Hardin said, “We will have to see two extremely strong months in November and December to surpass the 2023 sales record of $283 million.”
